Migrant Remittances and the Financial Market in Moldova
MIGRANT REMITTANCES ARE A GROWING FACTOR in the Moldovan economy. Anecdotal evidence suggests that rural households have surplus liquidity, most likely from remittances, which is kept in autarchic savings mechanisms. Primarily, these take the form of slow construction of secondary residences and money kept “under the mattress.”

Wheat Market Research 2003. Findings and recommendations
Due to severe climate conditions in 2003 Moldova faced a wheat crisis. Crop production failed, and wheat yield was only 102 thousand tons as compared to 1181 and 1113 thousand tons in 2001 and 2002 correspondingly. For the first time in the last five decades a need for largescale import of wheat and flour emerged.

Is Moldova ready to grow? Assessment of post-crisis policies (1999-2000)
The efforts to stabilize the Moldovan economy after the crisis of 1998 have been largely successful. The country avoided international default as current account position radically improved, cooperation with international financial institutions was reestablished and a significant primary fiscal surplus was achieved.
